Native speakers do not usually say that because it sounds formal.<\/p>\n<p>Say \u201cChao ban\u201d when you are close.<br \/>\nIf you get a close relationship with the person you are talking to, let\u2019s use \u201cChao ban\u201d as a greeting. \u201cBan\u201d is an informal way of meaning \u201cyou\u201d in English. It can be used for both genders but in approximately the same age as you. Therefore, do not say that to elders or someone you want to show your respect.<\/p>\n<p>Use \u201cChao anh\u201d, \u201cChao chi\u201d, \u201cChao co\u201d, \u201cChao chu\u201d, etc for elders.<br \/>\nThese phrases are only used for people who are older than you. Remember that you say \u201cChao anh\u201d and \u201cChao chu\u201d if the listeners are male. This way is common for phone calls not for communication in face-to-face.<\/p>\n<p>Greetings based on the time of a day.<br \/>\nVietnamese people do not usually greet others according to the time of the day because it sounds relatively unnatural. You can change flexibly the word \u201cban\u201d into other words like \u201canh\u201d, \u201cchi\u201d, etc. to make it appropriate for specific situations and relationships.
