This currency was first introduced to the country by the government of North Vietnam in 1946, replacing the old one of the French colonial government. Two revaluations followed in 1951 and 1958.<\/p>\n

After the reunification of Vietnam in 1975, Vietnam Dong is unified. The new dong equaled 1 dong of North Vietnam and 0.80 of South Vietnam.
